Summer 2020
I had the incredible opportunity to work on this short film during the Visualization program's Summer Industry Course 2020. During this class, my team and I received mentorship from current industry artists working at BlueSky Studios, DreamWorks Animation, ILM, MPC Films, Pixar Animation Studios, and Walt Disney Animation Studios. These mentors tasked us to create a 20-second, photo realistic animated short that communicated a significant moment of discovery. Created over the course of ten weeks on a completely remote, virtual pipeline due to COVID-19, our team presented progress twice each week to the industry mentors in virtual, professional reviews. We also implemented their daily feedback regarding art direction and technical parameters in order to receive official approval for each asset and the scene as a whole. Our team overcame the boundaries of physical distance and an online rendering service to create a dynamic, intricate short that tells the story of a woman discovering her husband's affairs. I worked as the lead modeler and set dresser, and I also had the opportunity to create various textures and shaders. A full list of my responsibilities can be viewed below.
Modeling (lead): gramophone hero asset, picture frames, side table, window, lamp, photographs, candles, candle holders, floorboards, floor trim, and stationary dust particulates.
Surfacing: Record label, side table, dinner table, wine glasses, window, radiator, floor trim, and photographs (roughness maps only), curtain, lamp stand, wine glasses, napkin, candle wax, and silverware.
Team Members: Kelly Burroughs (project manager), Isabel Rollo (lighting lead) , Connor Bugni (FX lead), & Drew Gillie (pipeline/rendering lead)
Software: Models and UVs done in Maya. Textures created in Substance Painter or Photoshop. Shaders created with Renderman.
